💰 Salary Range: $71,000 to $86,000. Actual compensation will vary based on experience, education, and qualifications, as well as the specific office location. This range reflects all Ampirical locations.

PMO Department Overview:
The Engineering PMO Team provides an enterprise structure and oversight that support Ampirical’s engineering teams in delivering high-quality power delivery projects. The department manages scope, schedule, budget, and risk while ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and industry standards. Serving as a central hub for coordination, communication, and project controls, the PMO drives consistency, accountability, and smooth execution across all engineering projects.
Your Role: Project Controls Specialist II - Scheduling / Finance
Ampirical is seeking a Project Controls Specialist II to support engineering project delivery across the United States. In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers and Engineering Leads to develop and maintain project schedules, track financial performance, support earned value reporting, and ensure projects are executing on plan. This is a hands-on, collaborative role with direct impact on project outcomes across a growing portfolio of power delivery engineering projects. The role offers a clear advancement path into senior and supervisory project controls positions.
What You’ll Do:
Develop and deliver comprehensive project performance reports covering key metrics across cost, schedule, risk, and quality to support proactive decision-making and alignment with project objectives
Develop, maintain, and analyze project and program schedules in Primavera P6, including baseline schedules, progress updates, and performance assessments, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with project objectives
Identify and evaluate the critical path within complex, multi-path project schedules; interpret float values to assess task flexibility and potential timeline impacts; validate schedule logic and dependencies
Recommend schedule recovery actions based on performance analysis; update project schedules to reflect revised plans; support impact assessments evaluating effects on scope, cost, and timeline
Refine and tailor bid schedule templates to match specific project scope, constraints, and requirements; collaborate with estimating and engineering teams to ensure schedule accuracy on proposals
Analyze schedules received from clients, vendors, engineering staff, and subcontractors; validate logic, float paths, and sequencing; identify inconsistencies and ensure inputs support overall project objectives
Generate engineering budgets and work breakdown structures for assigned projects; support development of program and portfolio budgets and forecasts; enter project data into the company ERP system and produce reports using ERP and Power BI
Calculate and report basic Earned Value metrics (CPI, SPI) against the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB); flag variances exceeding defined thresholds and communicate findings to Project Managers with recommended corrective actions
Support change management for assigned projects by evaluating and documenting subcontractor claims, change requests, disputes, and other modifications to ensure compliance and mitigate financial and contractual risk
Assist the project team in converting awarded bids into accurate project budgets within the company’s financial reporting system; ensure alignment between bid assumptions, scope, and cost structure
Prepare and deliver project and program cost reports covering budget tracking, forecasting, variance analysis, and cash flow evaluations; ensure alignment with project goals and support proactive cost management
Maintain and update the project risk register; perform qualitative risk assessments using probability-impact matrix.
Required Qualifications:
🎓 Education & 📊 Experience:
Minimum 3+ years of experience in project controls scheduling — preferably in utility, power delivery, or infrastructure engineering
Minimum 3+ years in Primavera P6 for schedule development and maintenance; working knowledge of critical path methodology, schedule logic, (EVM) concepts including CPI, SPI, and Performance Measurement Baseline; AACE Foundations of Project Controls training or equivalent is a plus
Preferred Qualification:
Experience in project finance
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of ERP systems and Power BI for reporting and data visualization
