Field Distribution Specialist II
We are seeking a dependable Field Distribution Specialist II to join Ampirical. This role is part of our Cappstone Energy Group team, which focuses on delivering specialized field services that support the safe and reliable operation of utility infrastructure. The Field Distribution Specialist II is responsible for designing and supporting electric distribution projects with a primary focus on territory work, new line extensions, and reinsulation jobs. This position requires strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and field coordination to ensure safe and efficient project execution. The Specialist II also assists with individual pole replacements and may support reconductor and tie line projects to continue building advanced design skills and system knowledge. Most travel is within the state and may occasionally require overnight stays.
What You’ll Do
Perform field assessments and collect data for territory work, new line extensions, and re-insulation projects.
Design and draft distribution layouts, ensuring compliance with company standards, engineering specifications, and safety regulations.
Prepare detailed construction packages including drawings, material lists, and supporting documentation.
Assist with individual pole replacement designs as needed.
Support senior designers and engineers on reconductor and tie-line projects to gain exposure to higher-complexity designs.
Coordinate with internal teams and field crews to clarify design intent and resolve construction issues.
Ensure all work adheres to safety policies, NESC standards, and applicable regulations.
Design and submit required permits for the Department of Transportation, railroad companies, county roads, transmission line encroachments, etc., as needed for your assigned jobs.
Maintain accurate records and update design systems with project and field data.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to team efficiency initiatives.
What You Bring
Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering technology, drafting/design, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted.
2+ years of experience in electric distribution design or related utility work.
Working knowledge of electric distribution systems, equipment, and design practices.
Proficiency in design/drafting software, GIS, or related tools.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to perform field work in varying conditions.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Strong technical foundation with a desire to grow into advanced distribution design.
Detail-oriented and thorough in both field data collection and design documentation.
Collaborative mindset with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
