Your Role: EPC Project Manager
As a Substation Project Manager at Ampirical, you’ll lead complex EPC substation projects from early engineering through construction and energization. You’ll oversee project execution across engineering, procurement, construction, scheduling, budgeting, and client coordination while partnering with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable power infrastructure solutions that support the evolving energy grid.
Projects may include greenfield and brownfield substations, relay upgrades, physical expansions, and utility modernization initiatives. (Projects ranging from 12kV–500kV)
What You’ll Do
Manage the full EPC lifecycle for utility substation projects, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project closeout
Lead project execution across safety, scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across physical substation design, protection & controls (P&C), civil/structural engineering, procurement, and construction
Develop and maintain project schedules, staffing plans, cost forecasts, and client reporting
Oversee contractor performance, material procurement, outage coordination, and field execution activities
Serve as the primary point of contact for utility clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
Lead project meetings, change management efforts, issue resolution, and project status communications
Ensure project deliverables meet client expectations, industry standards, and Ampirical QA/QC requirements
Support proposal development, project planning, and resource forecasting for upcoming utility infrastructure work
Travel to client sites, substations, and vendor facilities as needed to support project execution
What You Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (in lieu of degree, 4 additional years of relevant utility industry experience)
Experience managing EPC substation projects within utility, consulting, or infrastructure environments
Level III: 10-15 years
Sr: 15+ years
Knowledge of utility substation engineering principles, construction sequencing, commissioning, and outage coordination
Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams across complex infrastructure projects
Strong understanding of project financials, forecasting, scheduling, and risk management
Experience using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling tools preferred
Strong communication and client relationship management skills
