What You’ll Do
The Project Controls Manager ensures the project control functions (cost control, planning / scheduling and progress, risk management, change management, and reporting) are established in accordance with the contract and internal requirements for all phases of the project. Establishes controls and operating policies that identify, monitor, and mitigate risk factors that could impact the success of a project. Provides guidance and consultation to program managers and project managers, as well as manages the project controls team in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensures that project and department milestones/goals are met and adhere to approved budgets.
The Project Controls Manager helps manage the Continuous Improvement plan working with the team to streamline and improve processes, leading to increased productivity, better team relationships and higher customer satisfaction. Manage the priorities between different functions and levels within the organization to ensure they align with the top-level vision and strategy.
Job Duties
Directs all project control activities including cost control, reporting, change management, risk analysis, and schedule development/maintenance that include monitoring and recovery plan activities (if needed).
Manage and develop processes that provide continuous improvement for the growth and productivity of the company.
Manages and ensures the reconciliation of project controls data with financial systems.
Implement and maintain the project schedule, including critical path analysis and progress monitoring.
Ensures regular and timely reporting of all projects progress to advise of any conditions that would affect timeline and cost.
Promotes open communication and collaboration between all parties to ensure that projects are completed with minimal disruptions and delays.
Gather and tracks quality data to be used for estimates, contracts, and change orders.
Provides review and feedback to the project controls team to ensure accurate and timely project reporting to stakeholders, including progress updates, cost reports, and risk registers.
Reviews project performance to identify issues, challenges, and/or opportunities for consideration in the change management process.
Provides department cash flow projections and forecasts to assist Finance in managing available cash.
Develops, evaluates, and updates all project controls processes as required by department and client needs.
Responsible for effective execution and communication of project controls programs on assigned project in accordance with process.
Lead and mentor the project controls team, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities.
Plans project controls staffing needs.
Performs personnel performance reviews and career counseling. Interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for employment decisions as required.
Complete special project, assigned by Director of Operations, on an as needed basis.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, construction management, or business.
Requires 8-10 years of related experience, preferably withing the utility and industrial industry.
Requires 3+ years supervisory experience.
Requires knowledge of the principals of cost estimating, scheduling, finance, and contract administration.
Must have strong project analysis skills.
Must have strong time and cost management skills, as well as strong quality management skills.
Must have experience in project cost controls/analysis/reporting.
Must possess strong communication management skills including proficient oral and written communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with wide variety of people with diverse background of all levels and disciplines.
Must be able to manage and develop processes that provide continuous improvement for the growth and productivity of the company.
Must be able to manage the priorities between different functions and levels within the organization to ensure they align with the top-level vision and strategy.
Must be able to develop and maintain positive, cooperative, team-oriented relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, clients, and others in contact with the job.
Must have strong customer service orientation and assess customer needs and ensure delivery/receipt of service when appropriate.
Able to, efficiently and effectively, handle multiple and shifting priorities.
