Field Operations Manager
The Field Operations Manager oversees the company’s construction operations and construction management personnel on all EPC projects. The Field Operation Manager is responsible to the Direction of Operation for the successful execution of construction phase of all projects by managing and assisting the construction field resources assigned on each project.
Supervision of Construction Management Staff
- Assigns Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects to construction management staff.
- Reviews and approves timesheets, vacation requests, and expense reports.
- Conducts weekly staff meeting to ensure all project deliverables are completed.
- Provides annual reviews and support training goals of staff.
- Participates in interviews for all Construction Management Staff.
Standards/Processes Development
- Develops and maintains Company’s construction standards/processes and aligns with and communicates to appropriate company stakeholders.
- Ensures proper execution of related standards/processes with construction management staff.
Quality Control and Development
- Develops and maintains the company’s construction quality assurance and quality control program and communicates to appropriate company stakeholders.
- Ensures proper execution of related QA/QC program with construction management staff.
Training and Staff Development
- Maintains a list of core competencies for construction management staff.
- Ensures training is available and encouraged for construction management staff.
- Ensures construction managers skills are properly matched with assigned EPC projects.
Resource Loading EPC Projects
- Works with senior management on forecasting construction management needs for upcoming projects to successfully meet project objectives.
- Stays engaged with management and Project Managers to ensure proper project coverage and makes necessary adjustments where needed.
- Manages work hours of construction management resources on projects to minimize overtime not accounted for in project estimates by assisting in managing subcontractor schedules
Project Estimating and Contracts
- Works with project estimating team to assist in constructability of proposal documents and project specific execution plans.
- Assists project-estimating team with appropriate construction related documents for proposal and assists with subcontractor negotiations.
- Ensures proper construction management hours and per diem are accounted for in project estimates and aligns subcontractor schedules to minimize construction management cost during construction.
- Assists with outage planning and work plans where needed.
Project Execution
- Ensures proper planning and execution of Construction Manager’s responsibilities on projects.
- Ensures Construction Managers are executing project in accordance with company standards and processes.
- Ensures proper risk mitigation and change control is conducted by construction managers on projects.
- Manages construction manager work schedules on projects.
- Ensures construction managers are always fit for duty on projects.
- Ensures construction mangers are managing the project by schedule and cost constraints with the company and client standards and processes.
- Assists construction managers with work plans.
- Coaches and mentors Construction Managers in the execution of the work.
- Ensures Construction Managers have what they need to successfully execute the work.
- Ensures proper construction communication and reporting is executed on projects.
- Conducts field audits for consistency of execution across company’s projects.
Lessons Learned
- Conducts post-project review of construction execution and construction management performance and develops lessons learned documentation for successful integration into current and future projects.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Construction Management or similar field
- Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience in addition to experience requirements)
- 15+ years of experience in power utility construction management in the fields of Transmission, Distribution, Substation, Testing, and Commissioning engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in Operations or a Construction Management Role.
- Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) or equivalent Safety Certification
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to manage or work on multiple work fronts and tasks at one time; meet deadlines, prioritize the work, and work independently while producing quality work.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding construction drawings and related standards.
- Ability to professionally interface verbally with internal and external stakeholders.
