Your Role: Designer II
The Designer II’s basic function is to design and produce drawings and specifications, which may include substation, relay protection, and civil/structural and assit with site commissioning including operating relay or CT test equipment. The drawings include preparation of substation physical drawings (plan view, sections, etc.) and protection control (one lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.). The Designer II must ensure that all work is performed to the customer’s reasonable expectations in a successful and profitable manner. Accountability for the technical accuracy of plans and drawings. This position will spend on average up to 25% of the time on construction sites and will move around active building projects. The Designer II works closely with other designers and engineering on different levels of projects.
What You’ll Do
- Designs and develops physical layout drawings and specifications for power substations in AutoCAD.
- Designs and develops Protection and Control (P&C) drawings and specifications. Develop an understanding of project requirements, as assigned.
- Operates relay test equipment on job sites. Operates CT test equipment on job sites. Operates Megger on job sites. Performs physical inspections of grounds, structures, bus, switches, etc.
- Creates fault calculations in MathCad or equivalent.
- Creates models and TCC’s in SKM and/or ETAP.
What You Bring
🎓 Education: Associates Degree- Applied Science in Electrical Utility Technology required. Bachelors Degree in related field preferred.
📊 Experience: 4+ years of experience in design/drafting with a utility or engineering firm, or other applicable experience
💡 Skills: Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the power engineering field.
🔧 Bonus: Design experience in Autodesk AutoCAD and/or MicrosStation
